Antonov Benefiting from US-Ukraine Open Skies Agreement
The US Department of Transportation has granted Ukrainan operator Antonov Company t/a Antonov Airlines broad air charter exemptions for flights to and from the USA. These exemptions follow the US-Ukraine Open Skies agreement which became effective earlier this year.
The US DOT has also tentatively granted Antonov Company t/a Antonov Airlines a foreign air carrier permit, meaning Antonov no longer needs obtain US DOT statements of authorization, following non-objections from US operators (apart from US cabotage flights). Normal US Customs notifications and approvals are required for Antonov Company flights.
Antonov Airlines specializes in air transportation of oversized and superheavy cargoes worldwide. The Open Skies agreements promotes increased travel and trade, enhance productivity, and helps to spur high-quality job opportunities and economic growth. It serves to eliminate government interference in commercial airline decisions about routes, capacity, and pricing and allows carriers to provide more affordable, convenient, and efficient air service for consumers.
